I keep getting this error message @ startup. It comes up when I first start Windows (XP). It comes up as a missing dll. It’s bowagina.dll In regedit it finds a few instances of it which I delete, but they come right back. The name on them is “lizofinizu”
Can anyone help me out here? How do I get rid of it? I’ve tried using System Mechanic to remove it but it keeps coming back too! I’ve tried CCleaner, same thing, I can delete it but it comes right back. I’ve already run an AVG virus scan and Spybot scan in Safe Mode. It makes no difference. It won’t find anything else.
I’ve gone into msconfig and tried to uncheck the entries there, but I keep getting an access denied error stating I have to be logged in as an Administrator, but I AM!!!
HELP!!!

Ouch, doesn’t sound nice. OK, first of all it’s important to turn System Restore OFF so any infection that you remove is not restored. Secondly, I can recommend scanning with:
* McAfee Stinger - a standalone trojan virus scan utility.
* SpyBot S&D - For spyware/adware
* Lavasoft Adware - For spyware/adware
It’s important you scan with up-to-date definitions with all of these utilities and that it’s done in a logical order. I can recommend a great guide to removing viruses, spyware and adware from My Slow PC - find it here: http://myslowpc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5
Let me know how you get on with following that guide, you’ll notice there are some advance steps but we’ll take this one at a time.

Ok, don’t you know it…you have a virus or trojan that keeps reinstalling itself (it keeps coming back).
Download your latest antivirus definitions table.
Download A2+ Free edition which is an excellent scanner for trojans (antivirus programs are poor at or do not find most trojans).
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
Download and install SuperAntiSpyware, free edition
This is a second trojan scanner that will catch what A2+ does not.
http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html
After downloading, update the definitions tables for both of these.
Restart your computer and launch into Safe Mode WITH Networking by holding down F8 on Reboot. Log in as administrator if necessary.
Run your antivirus first, then the A2 and the Superantispywares.
This should remove the virus or trojan’s it finds. It will not, however, repair any damage to operating system files, so you may ultimately have to either restore from an earlier restore point before you were infected or ULTIMATELY you may have to reformat and reinstall the operating system. But for now, its worth the try to get rid of the bugs.
Just remember, a restore point can actually back up viruses and trojans, so you may end up restoring the bugs as well - so make sure you restore from a point you definitely are sure you did not have a problem like this with.

Honestly, the best thing to do if it's at all possible is to back up your files, format the drive and reinstall the OS. That will take care of it for sure and is usually less time than trying to do all these scans to remove it, plus in most cases it just comes back!
