I have a HP presario with an AMD 64 bit processor. I have the option to upgrade to either a 64 bit or 32bit. Would it be more efficient if I upgraded to the 64. Or is 32 the faster option.
Will 2 GB be sufficient for my laptop. That is currently what I have, and can I add more RAM.
I am referring to the upgrade of OS not the process that is an AMD 64 Athlon X2 Dual-core. I have 32 bit Vista Home already installed on my laptop.

I have both. 32 bit on my laptop and a 64 bit for my gaming computer. Double the bits and you really need to double the memory, at a minimum. I’m running the full 8gigs on my gaming computer. 32 bit requires less resources, much less, than 64 bit systems. Like any system running subpar, running under the necessary system requiremnets affects the stability of your computer system.

Well you have to update by bit. How do I know, because of self experience.

32 is better. business isn’t that good if it’s just for home. plus, you can do more applications on a 32 bit.

To use windows vista 64 bits you must be under a 64 bit arquitecture, this is, have a 64 bit processor. If you have a 32 bit processor then it will not work.
And yes, is faster option.

I am no computer expert but the technician who works on my computers has been building all the computers that he makes now as 64 bit. He does this because as he told me because all his customers demand it. The problem is all the software that they have will not run on it. You have to consider your own particular needs. The last computer that he built for me he designed so it is heavily upgradable. Knowing what I run he told me to stay with the 32 bit. This other machine he built runs a dual core chip. He can upgrade it to a quad core chip but he said that I don’t need it yet. Bigger is not always better. Future upgradable ability is the really important thing. Match the software with the hardware. Good Luck Bob
