Using ipod on MAC and PC?

I recently bought an ipod and the first thing i did was go to my buddies house and got his music off his lap top.. which is a apple.. now when i came home and plugged the ipod into my pC and this messege popped up: " Itunes has detected a macintosh-formatted ipod. You must restore this ipod before you can ude it with a pc.. now i will lose all my music.. if i want to use it with a pc.. why do they have to make this so complicated?? anyone know how to solve this issue? please i would appreciate any help.

      I have no idea why it did that?!?!?!?! And even a less idea how to fix it! SORRY
