I had my computer formatted and my technician installed a new version of Windows XP on it, after using it for about two weeks, the Windows started alerting me that the copy is not genuine, so I called my technician and he claimed that my version is pirated and not original. I have an original CD of Windows XP and a genuine serial with it which I bought a year ago and that brings me to my question, how can I set my Windows as genuine using an original CD of Windows Xp and an original serial, when the installed copy isn’t genuine? I tried the Product Key Update Tool to update the key with my original one but it didn’t work..
Please when answering don’t think of “formatting” as an option due to really important data on my PC which I’m not planning to get rid of.
Thanks in advance.

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but backup your “important data” and format. you could try calling and telling Windows that and say you bought the computer from a garage sell, they may just give you a key to enter anyway.
When it asks to make genuine, do it over the phone and tell the person your story (the garage sell one) and yeah. And if that doesn’t fly REFORMAT!!! ^_^

Your best bet is to format the drive and reinstall Windows with your original disk. Don’t use that technician again.
