Video Codec Help for vista?

I Reinstalled windows vista the other day and i noticed alot of my videos that use to work fine are no longer working.. they are playing in windows media player and it says it found the codec but it is only playing the audio.. how do i know what video codecs i need to get them to work.. they are just .avi files and most of the ones that i have work fine but just a select few dont seem to want to work.
