Okay, I'm planning on just formatting/restoring my computer later on today. My computer comes with some kind of Norton Internet Security and a 2-month free subscription. But I see that anything Norton, especially NIS is a huge system hog.
I know that there aren't very many 'good' free things nowadays. But I'm out of work right now, so I don't really want to spend $50 bucks apiece (or even once) for a multi-program or separate programs. What are the 'best' free programs out there for virus scanning, firewall and spyware?
It doesn't have to be an all-in-one program…and I feel that a lot of all-in-one programs only do one or two specific things well. So I'd actually feel more comfortable running 3 different programs. Any suggestions?
I know this is going to get all kinds of responses…most of which many people probably won't agree on. lol But I just thought I'd try here and see what others recommend. ![]()

I like AVG
http://free.grisoft.com
I have had good experiences with it.
We installed it on one computer at work that was having MAJOR problems with a Trojan. And it seems to have fixed the problem.
Also, they have a couple of "Home Security" options that are low cost (either $35 or $45 for one year of service). Go to http://www.grisoft.com/ww.home-and-office-security
P.S. Thanks for the reminder that Norton is a system hog. I have heard this from a couple of computer technicians that I know.
