Vista boot help. Quick!! Cannot boot?

July 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Ubuntu 8.04 and Linux Mint Elyssa installed. When today I went to boot on Vista, It said-
Cannot find file 0xc0000143 in /Windows/system32/config/system/
If possible can I fix this without my install disk? Cause Linux is unable to mount to any Vista Partition.

There is an option vista installation disc to repair a corrupt installation without loosing any data on C: drive.

Boot from the vista disc and select "repair". Follow the prompts. Don't format any partition or data will be lost.

If that works, vista will write its own bootloader to the MBR and the Linux partitions will be unbootable unless you reinstall grub.
