Vista comps microphone seitting?

I’ve been trying to video chat with my friend and somehow his microphone doesnt seem to pick up sound, or least his vista comp microphone system volume bar runs down by itself and then I can’t hear him anymore. Can someone help? His comp is a Vista

      Vista is garbage. Unfortunately, vista does not seem to work with microphones. I tried and tried and tried and tried, and have given up. It does not work. Vista is garbage.
