Vista having issues with large media files?

June 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment

on my vista pc i store all of my movies in one folder. i have 19 gigs of video. after adding the most recent video to the file it crashes windows explorer whenever i open it. i try to open the video through windows media player and other programs but they crash also. i then used command prompt to move one of the large files somewhere else and everything worked fine…. what caused this? does vista have issues in general with large files and is there a patch/solution for this?

Windows has always had problems with large files or folders. The problem point seems to be about 4 Gb.
I would recommend dividing the huge video folder into several folders, perhaps types of video [sports, humor, information, etc].
There was a similar problem in XP regarding the My Documents folder. Apparently no solution has been found yet.
