I got infected with VIRUSHEAT - it comes like a fake video codec. This, while I was protected by BITDEFENDER Internet Security 2008, which I bought one week ago. Then I could not remove it with bitdefender. Then somehow I managed to remove it with Malwarebytes Antimalware. Then - as I needed to reinstall windows anyway, I got BitD out, put Kaspersky in, and downloaded virus heat again. Again, I got infected, and kaspersky could not remove it. Then with NOD32, and got infected, but then NOD got it out.
The only effective antivirus was Avira free, which stopped it. but it has no firewall, no antispam, no antispyware. Is there anything truly reliable and complete, without having to install 3 or 4 security software - antivirus, antispam, antyspyware, firewall?

First of all, the only video codec pack you will need is klite. It decodes anything out there. It's free and the first thing I install.

I use NOD32 and the default firewall with windows. No problems ever. But Eset also makes SmartSecurity which is NOD32, firewall, etc all in one.

not every virus can be removed just so you know . or disinfected or deleted . Multiple , well designed viruses , usually attack important system files , which inturn means if you do end up deleting the file some way . you might have to reinstall windows .
Bit d and kaspersky are the top rated AV solutions atm , which u already have

I think Avast Antivirus is a cool solution for virus inflicted problems. You get a free trial period license key and can also get a new license key for free.(Domestic purposes)
For Professional edition you got to pay some amount. But home use has served me a lot.. free updates, free license key isn't too much of an ask for Avast Alwil software. Try me. http://www.avast.com/
If it doesn't really work for you then the advisable solution would be to go for the top class antivirus software Norton..
It should cost a few bucks but would help you a lot with it's constant surveillance.

You have to take responsibility for what you are downloading, any anti virus is pretty much after the fact, once you download it, it detects it and then tries to do something about it. Not all security software have the same database, there are so many viruses out there, so many different kinds that your best bet is prevention; be careful what you download! zone alarm has a complete security siute:

Unfortunately, there is not a one big FIXALL program. you're going to need several. However, everything on this list free.
1) Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
2) Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
3) Lavasoft Adware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
4) Clamwin Antivirus - http://www.clamwin.com/
5) Fsecure Black Light - http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/

Try VLAN video player - it does not requires codecs and plays mosts of the files. Some files in adult websites and sharing networks are corrupted for single purpose - to force people download fake codecs that "can play" these files.
VirusHeat is nasty piece of software, and anti-virus software manufacturers might need time to remove newest threats. Thus I would suggest getting some nice anti-spyware program as well. Personal choice - SuperAntiSpyware (free edition), though some people would advocate SpyBot Search and destroy, SpywareTerminator, Malwarebytes anti-malware as other free sofware.
Also, you could try Norton 360, though its a bit costly, both $$ wise and resource wise… I would stick to NOD32.
