What causes a page fault error when loading YM ver8.1 in jscript.dll at 0167:6b70900e when using WIN98SE?

Every time I try to start Yahoo Messenger it crashes with the error message "Yahoo Messenger has caused in invalid page fault in jscript.dll at registry 0167:6b70900e and will close." Initially I cleaned cache, then rebooted. Restarted with same error. Uninstalled, then downloaded the install files and re-installed. Am getting the same error. What is causing the error? Is there a different setting I need to use. Do I need to do a regedit? Also, will the new ver 9 beta work with WIN98SE??
