what causes my computer to have slow frame rate while playing games?

i think my graphics card is - ATI radeon22
hard drive is about 70 gb.

i downloaded the demo for cod4 , the graphics is great, but the frame rate is so slow. what upgrades could i do to my pc to make it work better and have smoother frame rates.

      because when u download u use memory which slows up ur computer the more u take up space.

      this depends upon the type of games u play(2d or 3d)
      Just checkout ur RAM and increase it if the recommended RAM for the game is higher than ur current RAM

      Your video card cant handle the game.
      Lower the settings or get a better video card.
      May I suggest nVidia GeForce 8800 GT OC 512Mb.
      Or find something cheaper of 7th families.

      Your computer specs don't match that of the game probably. You'll definitely need a good graphics card, a bit more RAM, an audio card if you're using onboard audio, and some more hard drive space. Your graphics card must be at least a GDDR2 256MB spec, audio card must not be onboard because it makes the OS work harder to produce sound than a dedicated audio card, and at least 512MB-1GB of RAM.
