I installed Motorola Phone Tools and downloaded updates. After restarting the computer I get a blank black screen. I don’t know how I can remove those drivers/updates if I can’t even go into safe mode?
I already tried going into F11/restore but Acer apparently only offers a full hard drive re-format and I cannot afford to lose my files.
My laptop did not come with any Vista cds–it was pre-installed. And there are no restore cds either.

Pressed the 'hotkeys' to enter save mode during boot/ startup?
F5/F8?
Or just left the machine start up?
Booted from Vista disc and used repair?

Buy a mac. Just joking, your computer should have come with a pair of restoration disc, just turn it on slide them in and your Computer will reboot and lose all the info but it better than nothing. If it happens again just convert back to xp

If you put in your Vista disc and boot from it, there is an automated startup repair utility that could fix the problem. There is also a command line utility which could be used to remove the drivers
Goto http://www.puppylinux.org/ download and burn puppy, use it on this troublesome pc, find and remove the drivers, but if that doesn't work you can use puppy to "save" your files and then use the acer restore utility.
