John MC CAIN is on record as saying he will overhaul Social Security, and Medicare. Those are John MC Cains own recorded words, and I believe I have the right to ask what it means. What does it mean? If you remove this question again, it will be back, because it is a question. So my question is, “What does John MC Cain mean when he says he will overhaul Social Security and Medicare? Does it mean he will end them? And I will report you for misusing the “report” function of this list to censor questions if you misuse the list again.

"e& McCain has said that he would offset his proposed cuts — including reducing the corporate tax rate and eliminating the Alternative Minimum Tax that has plagued middle-class families — by ending congressional pork-barrel spending, unnecessary government programs and overhauling entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security.&unquote&

We’ve been making fun of social security for 20 years, and now that it’s a drag on our economy, we’d like to correct it.
In about 10 more years, you youngins are going to be footing the bill for half of the cenile, diaper-wearing Baby Boomers, and the cost of medical care is only going to get higher.
If you elect a democrat, he will write a blank check from the government to cover all of our medical bills, and he’s going to trust the doctors to be “fair” in their billing. No oversight needed.
Medicare is already close to that scenario.
If you were pres, what would you do?

Actually Social Security is going broke thanks to Clinton using it in his admistration to fix the deficit to look like he did something. We need to fix it so people will have something as they should since they put money in for a part of their retirement. Secondly, Medicare is a joke and the elderly are being killed financially by the lack of coverage they have. The cost of medication is taking all of their monthly income to support and the coverage has much to be desired with the need for nursing home care and rehabilitation care. It is simply not covered. Yes, we do need to focus on reform and improvement of those two key issues for all Americans, as it will affect all of us at some point in our lives.

The Republicans want to privatize social security, at an increase in cost the the American people. It would therefore be an elective program for workers who could afford it. The Democrats want social security to remain under government control, to control the costs and insure that all working Americans can benefit from this social program.

Social Security and Medicare were built in a system where people rarely lived past 65 and the population of young people were growing. Then something happened. People started living past 75 on average yet were still collecting Social Security at 65. Then there was a decent baby bust known as Generation X. Generation X can’t support the baby boomers to the tune of $53+ trillion (Social Security and Medicare). The federal government is going to have to bail those programs out with taxpayer money.
Now AARP will rally against any cuts and that’s too much money to generate the tax money to pay for these programs. So why not just have Social Security and Medicare for the poor? The Democrats have refused to accept that even though Social Security and Medicare were for the people that couldn’t pay their retirement. The Democrats want to call Social Security and Medicare retirement programs and not labeled as welfare programs. So how is this going to be fixed? Well the legislation has to be put in place and he has accepted that he’ll take the blame for the cuts in service since he is probably going to run for one term anyways. This frees up the legislature to prevent the Social Security and Medicare programs from needing to be bailed out later. They won’t have to worry about taking the blame.

President Johnson was the first one to raid the Social Security trust fund money to fight the Vietnam War. Once the door was opened, the rest of them took the Social Security money and put back treasury notes. One thing people don’t think about is Social Security takes care of woman who’d husbands die in say accidents or by illness. This will help take care of the kids till they are 18. The really sad part of this is the Republicans have hated Social Security since Roosevelt brought it in. Remember if your retirement is Wall Street and that goes bust. How you going to live? This fund is really doing fine and will be solvent till 2025, without outside help, and forever with just a small rules change that let’s the multi - multi millionaire pay to a higher cutoff. Sometimes I just can’t sleep at night knowing the hardship this will cause our millionaires. Maybe it would be better to do the Christian thing, and starve our retirees?
