I hear that bad things happen but what exactly?
This is what's on my computer:
- Sympatico Security Manager
–Firewall
–Anti-spyware (don't use a lot, slow)
–Anti-virus (don't use a lot, too slow)
–etc.
- SuperAntiSpyware (free ver.)
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Ad-aware 2007 (free ver.)
- AVG Anti-virus, Anti-spware and RootKit (free ver.)
When I'm scanning, I don't run all the programs at the same time but… is this set up safe?

Why would you have more than one anti-virus program in the first place? They eat your Ram especially if it's norton but if anything could happen it would be your computer getting confused in which program to use to scan files. You never know what will happen but then again I don't think many people believe in installing more than one anti-virus program per computer. Just delete them all but one!

It takes up a lot of your ram. You only need about one antivirus program, just make it a program that runs from the time you start your computer untill you shut it down. A program like this is one that you will have to purchase.

instead of using multi anti virus and other security tools i would suggest be aware about spyware maleware and other malicious files Use any one good Anti-virus as you mentioned you are using lots of antispywares antivirus etc , using multiple AV can be result of false virus warnings and alerts conflicts and it will also consume your memory .

This is what a Microsoft MVP has to say about the subject. You may also want to consider reading her entire web-page on "How to prevent Malware". It is one of the best that I have seen.

"Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown."
Good luck.

You should never really have more than one antivirus on your pc.They will inevitably clash with each other.
Ideally you should invest in one good antivirus software, norton or kaspersky and i recommend having possibly two anti-spyware programmes obviously not all running at the same time.
