What is an inbound connection (detected by firewall)?

October 2nd, 2008 · 2 Comments

What I’m looking for are the reasons and the possible sources/couses of inbound connections and also if inbound connections should always be considered malicious. I left my computer on all night a few days ago ended up with some inbound connections running in the morning and I’m concerned about what might have happened.

Thanks in advance,

Inbound connections are anything requesting access to your PC from the outside. Your firewall has detected it and blocked it.

Blocked inbound requests are not a risk.

Not -all- inbound connections are malicious, but they should ALL be treated as if they are.

If these inbound connections were blocked by your Firewall you’re fine. There should be a place in the Firewall program to look at what was blocked & what wasn’t. Try “History” or something like that. Also, if you leave it on for long periods & have an Internet connection you can turn off, do it.
