Would like a program that performs antivirus protection, rootkit detection and key logging protection…all without slowing down my system like Norton does.

Do not take my word for it that AVAST and AVG are about the best, instead, try going to http://www.av-compare.org.

yes, norton is the best, but with risk. it will slowdown all your system.
so next choice is McAfee. not as good as norton, but the best in all categories.
it will not slowdown your system like norton but give protection almost like norton can do.
but if you buy fake McAfee antivirus, the program will crash when you update the anti virus. (just like windows vista)

If you want a paid antivirus then your best bet would be Kaspersky or NOD32 but if you want a free antivirus go for Avira or Avast.

1. AVG
2. NOD
3. Kespersky (might load a little but much lesser than Norton).

The best Antivirus is the one tested to have the highest detection / removal rates.
The top rated Antivirus/Spyware suite by those who test antivirus programs (av-comparitives, virus.gr, etc) is Kaspersky
(I have used this to clean up machines that nothing else would work on.
download a 30 day free trial here.

After cleaning up your computer I suggest buying it (I’ve seen it on Amazon for under $30),
Nod32 http://www.eset.com/ is rated in the same class as the number 1 Kaspersky, and is known to be light on system resources, Having used both I prefer Kaspersky
