My father's computer has become infected by a very large amount of virusses, and by using Hitman Pro, which is a program which basically downloads a lot of other anti-spyware programs to to clear the computer, he's cleared most of them.
There are, however, a few persistent ones. They are Adware, and are picked up by Spyware Doctor, but as it is the free edition, it will only detect them, not remove them.
What program is good for removing them, and is free?
Hitman Pro made use of the following programs already, so don't suggest these:
* Eset NOD32 antivirus system
* Webroot Spy Sweeper
* PC tools Spyware doctor
* Lavasoft AdAware SE
* Safer Networking Spybot - Search & Destroy
* TrendMicro CWShredder
* JavaCool Software SpywareBlaster
*Ewido Micro Scanner

I currently use Kaspersky Internet Security for firewall and antivirus, and it also picks up a lot of spyware. It's very good. I haven't had any problems with it.
It replaced Norton after it let something very nasty onto my PC (It was an old nasty, so it should have been able to pick it up).
Kaspersky is paid for (30 day trial available here: http://www.kaspersky.com/trials), but it is a good price compared to others like Norton, and is worth the money for the protection.
I also use AVG Antispam, which I think they are incorporating into a paid package, but can still be downloaded free from here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antispyware/
I used to use Adaware and Spyware together, but AVG seems to pick up everything.
AVG also have free antivirus, but I found that Kaspersky was better. Get it here: http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

Hi - I can understand your problem. You list some fairly decent removal tools there - a couple of things to remember before you dismiss them:
1.) How are you using them? E.g. have you turned off System Restore before running them to remove infections? Have you also tried running them in Safe Mode?
2.) Are they fully updated when you run them? You need to ensure that definitions are up-to-date.
There are also some other decent programs that you can try - for example I highly recommend McAfee Stinger. Please can you visit http://www.myslowpc.co.uk/ and either click on the "Troubleshooting" link or visit the forum (linked below) to view the recommended steps and tools for virus and spyware removal and post back your findings.
Thanks, and good luck!
