My brothers computer is constantly having a pop up ads that is XP Anti-virus and 2008 Anti-virus and it say that it is infected but when I tried to look the programs in the Task Manager the program itself are not there. Does that mean that it is a virus itself or a ADWARE or MALWARE.. Pls enclose a reliable anti- SPYWARE or any software that can remove such. If you also have free PC cleaner or registry cleaner pls enclose it with your answers. Tnx….

(Windows XP and 2000 ONLY. If you are running a different version of Windows, skip this step and start at the next paragraph) Download SmitFraudFix and restart your computer in safe mode. Once in safe mode, disable System Restore, and run the program, running options 2,3, and 5. Then restart your computer in normal mode.
Now make sure that you have an up to date antivirus program (If you don't, install Avira AntiVir Personal. It has considerably higher detection rates than AVG, and marginally higher detection rates than Avast!. If you have one that has expired, uninstall it with RevoUninstaller and then install Avira AntiVir Personal). I would also recommend that you use ThreatFire, Spyware Doctor Starter Edition, and Comodo Firewall (Just like with the antivirus above, you should only have ONE firewall). Once they are installed, disable System Restore and do full scans with all of them. If you need any extra help, feel free to send me a message on Yahoo Messenger and I can walk you through it or help you some more.

No you don't have the viruses as the pop ups stated from those rogues. What you have there is Smitfraud. If XpAntivirus and Antivirus has been installed on your system without your permission, or you are seeing popup advertising, or recommending that you use XpAntivirus and Antivirus 2008, your system is infected with the zlob trojan. You can see more in the link down below.
You can use the same program (Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) to remove them, and it's free to use as well. By the way, conventional security programs including Spybot, Lavasoft, Avast, AVG, Avira, Lavasoft cannot remove this kind of infection. And you don't need to disable your system restore, because if you do, you'll lose all your restore points. I don't know why this is suggested, I looked all over and cannot find one forum which suggested disabling system restore for removal of rogue programs.

The strongest free protection for your computer is:
Comodo Pro (firewall) and AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0
More user friendly option:
ZoneAlarm (firewall) simpler to use and requires less setting up then Comodo Pro
All available from download.com
Would also recommend that you use a safer browser like Firefox, and download additional anti-spyware software my favourite is Ad-aware 2008.
I recently removed my McAfee firewall and installed Comodo Pro, its the best firewall I've ever used and comes top in leaktests (see below) if after installing Comodo you get too many warnings turn the defence + setting to clean computer.

(Don't use AntiVir, some people recommended Avira AntiVir to me so I removed AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0 and installed AntiVir but I could not get it to update, the forums are full of people having the same problem)
Lysander_LSD: You shouldn't be running AVG and Norton 2008 at the same time they both have real-time anti-virus scanners and will conflict with each other.
