Last night my pc got a virus. Antivirus 2009. Horrible wretched thing!
So im kind of worried that watever other anti virus program i purchase to remove this virus and any other infection my pc has, that that program may also be a virus..
So I seen on one called spyware doctor, does anyone know if this one is legitamate? Or is ther an alternative??
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Spy doctor is for spyware not virus, but Antivirus 2009.is a spyware infection.
But I wouldn’t use spy doctor I would go with spybot for my spyware protection. And if you need virus protection go with AVG 8.0

PC Tools Spy Doctor is legit but resource heavy and sometimes inaccurate. If you’re gonna buy, go for Kaspersky Suite. You can get it for £15 from Amazon and it’s the best all in one. If you want free..go for AVG or Antivir for anti virus. Use Spybot for antispyware (it’s free). Add to these ThreatFire (free) from PC Tools to support them both and add extra protection.
Slainte to you too, ya scut ya : )

Lindsay actually beat me to the exact same recommendations. AVG Free and “Spybot Search and Destroy” are both excellent programs to use.

Spyware Doctor is a good software, but there are better solutions. I personally consider a-squared anti-malware to be of more value than SD. Over the last year I’ve been helping people to remove all kinds of malware, and looking through endless scanlogs concluded that SD misses lots of pests. This is a VERY frustrating experience. So, I’ve seen combinations of McAfee + Spyware Doctor which together could not prevent systems from being infected by XP antivirus, nor could they remove the infection. A little test I conducted with on-demand scanners showed SD completely useless for detecting specific spyware infections.
But a lot depends on how you surf. If you avoid visiting suspicious websites, SD can be just OK.
P.S>as to Antivirus 2009, I believe a-squared command-line scanner will remove the infection if run in Windows Safe Mode.

I can tell you from personal experience that Spyware Doctor works very well. In fact, I have been using it for over two years and have not had a single spyware or virus infection.
Also, it if was such a bad product as others have claimed then it is doubtful that it would have won so many awards as it has from major computer magazines and websites.
Here is a website that does a pretty good review of Spyware Doctor as well as a couple of others:
