Well I have Norton internet security right now and it expires in 7 days. I would want to get something good for free.
I checked out AVG (Free version) but it doesn’t protect everything. So if i get avg, I also need to get something for spy ware and some kind of a firewall?
Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure your Windows Firewall is turned on. In Vista, turn on the outgoing firewall feature which is turned off by default.

first of all, no antivirus makes you safe completely, there is still a very very high chance that it will not be able to stop the virus, so make sure not to go onto bad websites not to click on popups.
Second of all, a very good free antivirus software is one called Avira antivir. It is a free antivirus from a company from germany, and it has a higher success rate than norton, so basically you are getting something better than norton for free. I solved my virus problem using Avira completely. I could not solve it using the 30 day trial of mcaffee.
