What's a good spyware/adware protection?

May 5th, 2008 · 13 Comments

I've heard that Spybot Search and Destroy is well recommended
oh and SpySweeper

I just realized I had no spyware/adware protection so i am in urgent need:]

thanks for your answers!
well i have mcafee virus protection running also

so does AVG still work with it?
cause isn't AVG antivirus AND antispyware?
sorry for all the added details

but is mcafee also a firewall protection?

Spybot S&D with it's IMMUNIZE function is good protection. Also superantispyware.com has a free version… neither does "real time" protection, but with a decent antivirus and doing a spyware scan occasionally you should be fine… especially with SBS&D's immunize blocking tens of thousands of known bad sites.

You're probably looking for something that's free. If that's the case AVG is by far the best program you can get. Here is a link for it.

      Good luck with you're computer.

I have Microsoft windows live one care and I love it. It is very easy to use for those that are challenged at pc's, very friendly. It catches things quickly and alerts you and can be set to take care of things on it's own if you don't mind it.
I think it's great. I have had Mcaffi, and Norton before, and liked live one care the best.

Norton 2008 and Windows one care is good

what brian said but i will add…
try advanced windows care personal… it also has immunize but uses a database of 32k with several other features.

i would go with superantispyware and iobit's advanced windows care Both are FREE

The one that has the PC Magazine best spyware this year is Spyware Doctor 5.5. I have used all of them, and I can tell you it is the one that protects the most. The disadvantage is that if your computer is old/slow it will make it even slower. You won't even be able to use it. In that case I recommend Spysweeper. You also need a firewall and antivirus, I recommend Kaspersky for that. I used notrton before, but this year Kaspersky has the best reviews and I really like it. Maybe Norton will learn and be the best next year, like it used to be. I am not cheap with computer security, because if you ever get hacked and your identity is stolen, you will loose many thousands of dollars and your whole credit history. It would be a mess. Hackers this days do it for money; they do it for fraud. It isn't just a game anymore. They are all in Russia and China so they will never get caught. It is wise to protect yourself.

I currently used a combination of AVG Free edition with Norton Security. I didnt change any settings but AVG did change some.
Check filehippo.com, they have free software downloads classified accordingly, what you need is one anti-virus that do all the things including firewall protection, anti-spyware/adware etc.
I have reserved kaspersky anti-virus software, its russian anti-virus and read some review thats its the best. Of course , you can have only one anti-virus software running at 1 time.

Comodo Firewall is the best firewall .

Avira is far better than AVG .

SUPERAntispyware is once of the best and free :

SUPERAntiSpyware with its Multi-Dimensional Scanning and Process Interrogation Technology will detect spyware and remove over 1,000,000 pests such as Vundo, SmitFraud, WinFixer, VirusRay, and VirusHeat. Repair broken Internet connections, desktops, registry editing, and task manager. The program provides complete and custom scanning of hard drives, removable drives, memory, registry, individual folders include trusting items and excluding folders for complete customization of scanning. Detect and remove spyware, adware, malware, Trojans, dialers, worms, keyloggers, and hijackers. Prevent potentially harmful software from installing or re-installing. First Chance Prevention examines over 50 critical points of your system each time your system starts up and shuts down to eliminate threats before they have a chance to infect and infiltrate your system.

      ~Great Luck! Enjoy!
