what’s a kernel inpage error?

August 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Im now getting a blue screen error on my computer that say “Kernel inpage error” What is that? I had practically the same problem around late August last summer. Only for it to be fixed just last june. And now its back with slightly different error details in the blue screen does it have something to do with the memory? Will getting a memory upgrade fix this? Because I heard that a possible cause is simply a bad memory stick. And also note that the last time this happened my computer could not boot to normal mode, I would always get the blue screen but the directory service repair safe mode seems to work fine. Which is why I was able to use my computer for so long until it got fixed last June, but now its back, so is it a hardware issue?

Without knowing what operating system you’re using it’s difficult to offer specific advice. A kernel inpage error is closely related to the Page File which is closely related to physical memory.

      http://www.theeldergeek.com/paging_file.htm

Its purpose is to extend the amount of physical RAM and make it available to the system. Both services and installed applications can benefit from this ‘extra’ RAM, even though it is substantially different from the sticks that plug into the motherboard.

A kernel inpage error can result from a loose cable, a bad memory stick, and a host of other options. This long-winded forum thread had a kernel inpage error that was eventually solved by defragging the paging file. If you read through all the suggested fixes / actions you might find the one that helps your situation.
