I personally use Avast. (www.avast.com) It’s free (You have to register with your email address and name), but I prefer it to AVG because the updater is less intrusive.

Avast and AVG is some that are really good

I’ve been using Avast since I had a Vista machine and never had a virus yet.
This might also be because of the firewall (Comodo) and cautious websurfing.

AVG free edition. I am currently using it on my Vista and am very satisfied. Downloading AVG is free, effectife, and simple to download. Just go to download.com and search AVG or heres a link… http://www.download.com/3004-2239_4-10861654.html
hope that helps

You already have:
1. Windows Defender
2. Windows Firewall
Those are both currently active, and you can spot viruses with them. But, i am not sure if they can spot viruses like:
Win32 agent
Server.exe
Downloader
etc
Because those are severe, and i am not positive if they can spot all of those. Because, these are probably not a full anti-virus like:
Nod32
Avast
Avira Antivirus
Mcafee
BitDefender
ZoneAlarm
and a lot more
Those, can probably protect you from huge viruses that gives a Hacker full access to your computer by remote access.
I highly recommend you use Avast, it is graded as a top anti virus.
What it can do:
1. it can block severe trojans/viruses/worms etc
2. it blocks websites that have trojan horses inside them
3. It updates it self every 2 days, not like free avg.
And a lot more
I use the professional edition, due to reason i Program, Visit a lot of sites, etc. But i recommend you just get the free version, which can be downloaded here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
Also, CCleaner can come in help full at times, it boosted my PC up so it goes very very fast..

These 2 software, are really reliable and good… I highly recommend you use these 2!

I would suggest that you get Avast. It is free for personal use.
Yesterday, my free anti-virus caught a trojan virus.
To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive, I upload it to virus total web site to check.
http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c3558d843dd504f46d72986f53f10d3a
To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect the trojan. The one that detect the trojan are mainly the free version.
Avast boot scan in Windows safe mode is the most effective way to get rid of stubborn trojans and viruses that keep coming back to haunt you.
These trojan and viruses hide themselves in system restore folder and many anti-virus programs cannot get rid of them. So whenever, you restart your PC,
the viruses are restore back by WIndows.
Avast boot scan help to get rid of them in the system restore folders and ensure your system are clean.

Avira Antivir Classic is the best free antivirus. I am not saying this because its my opinion or feeling but because that is what tests show.
Take a look at this link
http://virus.gr/portal/en/content/2008-06%2C-1-21-june
This above link is rank of all antivirus software (paid and free).
The number 10 in this list is free Avira. Avast and AVG are good too, but Avira is slightly better.
You can download it from
