When downloading McAfee, I get an error message that says "McAfee can’t access the internet."?

August 27th, 2009 · 1 Comment

I have Norton on my computer and wanted to put McAfee on because Norton is about to expire. I un-installed Norton before installing McAfee. When I go to the McAfee website and hit the download button, I go through the first two windows that ask you to hit run, but after that I get a window that says McAfee can’t access the internet. And I am on the internet and the connection is perfect. I’m using Internet Explorer and can search other websites fine.

My next idea was to download Firefox and try from there. But there is a firewall or proxy blocking it from the internet, as the window tells me. I have looked through the firewall, which is Windows Firewall, but I can’t quite figure it out. I disabled all the firewalls, but it’s still not working. Neither McAfee or Mozilla are working. It’s almost like there is a hidden Norton file that’s not allowing McAfee to access the internet along with Mozilla. Or a firewall blocking them both.

I tried Geek Squad, but they didn’t tell me anything, I didn’t already know. He said it’s probably McAfee but I can download it on my other computer, on the same network, just fine. I have no idea what is going on.

Sorry it’s so lengthy, I wanted to give as good as description of the problem as possible. Please help!

Nortan owns macafee. There is a number of free antiviruses. Raido show computer host Kim Comando suggested Avast home addition and i have had very few problems since.
