The virus vault is like a secure trash can where the deleted file (virus) is held - just to make sure AVG hasn't removed something that will stop the PC working. It will then be deleted after a set amount of time

you should clear the vault every 2 weeks or so

when it is in the vault its quarantined–means it held up and cant do anything—when you delete it it is no longer in your computer—yes its gone for good!
