when i use cogswap with my ps2 to play my backup games it just goes to a black screen?

I think i backed the games up right i made an image file of the games using imgburn. i didnt do an iso image file cuz it didnt do anything the last couple of times i tried to do it.but when i burnt the image file to the game and try to load it up with cogswap i press x at the use cogswap screen and it goes blank and dosnt do anything. i have done it for Guitar hero 3 and naruto ultimate ninja 3. naruto goes black right afterwards and gh3 goes to the gh3 loading screen loads and then goes blank is it because im using $8.00 magnavox dvd+r disk and should use a disk like sony or something from bestbuy. if you can give anygood suggestions i would gladly use them.
