As far as free Antiviruses go. Your best bet would be Avast! at this point. AVG would have been my suggestion but after this month they will no longer offer their free services.

If you decided you wanted to pay, go with Nod32 or Kaspersky.

Search string "antivirus".
In the search result, you will get certain filtering options. Select "Freeware". Now you have a good list of all the latest antivirus software that are freely available on the internet.

There is also a good free software available on http://www.lavasoftusa.com.

AVG antivirus is also a good option. I've used it. It works well. It's also freely available on http://www.download.com.
