Hi! I recently downloaded a flash program and was told it was necessary to download an mpeg4 codec in order for it to function completely. Now… I have Windows XP and when I opened the program, it ran in a black background (which I was told would happen unless I got an mpeg4 codec installed). So I’ve downloaded two or three supposed mpeg4 codecs but when I try to install them, Windows tells me that the software hasn’t passed a Windows type test that proves the software is compatible with Windows XP. It also says that if I go ahead and install it anyway, it could cause some serious problems with the system either immediately or in the future. So… I guess that rules out installing that type of codec.
I also remember reading on a microsoft.com page that there are certain codecs that are no longer available. Is this true? If not, where else can I get a mpeg4 codec for Windows XP that will actually work?

I don’t know which codec you tried, it should be fine, but here’s a better one that is completely safe, even if Windows throws that warning at you again:
