This is not exactly registry, but related:
Start, Run, type ‘msconfig’ and click Startup tab.

Click on the start button (if you are using windows)
Then click on Run
In the small text space, type msconfig and hit enter.
You will get all the options for startup programs.

rather than gettings your hands on registry do this
go to start>run
and type
msconfig
for vista just type that in search
press enter
msconfig windows opens up goto the tab that says "startup "
here you can select and deselect which programs would start at startup.
OR
if you want to really edit them through registry , again
start>run
and type this
regedit
hit enter key or press ok
registry window opens up
navigate to this folder or key using the + (sign) to expand the registry hive or folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\Run
highlight run and on the right hand side you would see the startup programs , delete entry to disable at startup.
NOTE:proceed with caution

If you have to ask, you should NOT ever touch the Registry. you also shouldn't try to use "ms-config".
"Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. It's simple to use, it's very small and won't burden your system. A valuable tool for system administrators!"
Get it here:

If you have to ask, *D*O* *N*O*T* play with the registry. If you do something wrong in the registry you could turn your computer into a large paper weight. If you turn off the wrong things in msconfig you can turn them back on.

If the program is an “aftermarket” install, and you don’t want to actually delete the program itself, then go to START>ALL PROGRAMSS>STARTUP, and left click on the program you no longer want to open every time you boot up. Choose “Delete”. Msconfig is better suited for troubleshooting a startup problem, or a crash problem. Any changes to msconfig eventually revert back to its usual/regular settings, to include putting a program back into startup mode (your msconfig will show duplicates of stopped programs).
