Which is better, AVG or Avast? Also have a few other questions about my programs.?

Ive used both AVG and Avast and i either way i still get viruses alot, which is BETTER, avg or avast? Also, im currently using avast, spybot and bitdefender 10. Is there something better i could replace the bit defender with? It doesnt seem to EVER catch anything. What would go good with my Spybot? I need free programs too btw. thanks.
