My dad has Acer Aspire One that came with McAfee Anti-virus software.
He's saying that he wants to delete McAfee and download the FREE TRIAL Norton Antivirus.
What should he do?
Delete McAfee and Download the Free trial Norton
or
Keep the full McAfee Antivirus and NOT download the free trial Norton.
and Why?

Being affiliated with Symantec, I think norton will work better than McAfee…….actually, I prefer the classic symantec11 endpoint stuff…the firewall that comes with symantec11 is so smooth……

For home use on a single machine, they're pretty much equal.
It's really a matter of how valuable his time is. If the time needed to uninstall McAfee, install the free trial of Norton, and then keep on top of it so youll still have virus protection when the free trial is up is not as valuable as whatever amount of money will be saved, then go ahead.
Personally, I'll just pay the trivial amount and not have to worry about it. But then again, I work in downtown NYC and have a significant "time = money" attitude.

Norton is better than Mcafee, many say Mcafee have a low successful removal rate of viruses and that Norton is Bloatware, people are right about the Mcafee but Norton isn't bloatware unless you are poor and have a crappy PC.
I'd recommend buying Norton Anti-virus 2009 for around $20-$40 at a local Best buy or something, they have been reliable for over 10 years and have been recovering from their so called criticisms of the 2000's in the last few years. I wouldn't cheap out on a cheap free Antivirus like AVAST because it just doesn't get the job done like something your paying for.

Norton Antivirus is far more reliable than McAffee as it detects (in my experience anyways) worms and spywares than McAffee didn' t detect.
The only problem is that if you ever set up Norton on your computer you' re kind of forced to keep using Norton as it is hard to desinstall and keeps clashing with the antivirus you want to set up instead. In other words, good antivirus, but terrible commercial approach because you' re forced to stick with it.

Neither are any good and both use far too much resources.
I'd recommend buying NOD32 http://eset.com or getting Avast Home Edition for free http://avast.com
If you uninstall either McAfee or Norton you need to run a removal tool to completely remove them. The links to both are in my profile.
