Which is better? Norton or McAfee?

December 28th, 2008 · 8 Comments

I just loaded a Norton virus software on my pc, and now I JUST realized that Comcast cable, which is the internet carrier I use, happens to offer free internet security software called McAfee.

When you begin to download McAfee software, there is a statement that says I must remove any other security software on my PC.

First….What's the difference between Norton and McAfee?, and second, what should I do considering I just installed Norton? Wait till it expires in 12/09. I plan on staying with Comcast for more than a couple of years. I really like Comcast.

Thanks everyone!!

I prefer Norton over McAfee because Norton is a more trusted brand of antivirus.

I have comcast, and there mcafee is garbage my pc got hacked into because of it, Norton I purchased right after it's Norton 360, it cost $80.00 but it's worth it they provide you with help when you get stuck, you can uninstall mcafee threw your control panel and re-install norton so it works right otherwise the 2 will make conflicks against each other and perhaps leave your computer vunerable, good luck

I like Norton. McAffee was weird for my computer, it just popped up when I turned on the computer then I never saw anything of it while using it, so i don't know if it's me or if it's supposed to be hidden for convenience or what. But Norton will let you know if something happens, it will tell you if something is wrong then give youa list of options of what to do and it's just nice because it tells you what's up and alerts you when you need to do a scan and it's so easy to use.

Norton was preinstalled on this new computer that i got, and i uninstalled it. For some reason, I hate Norton, and I use McAfee, but i have had a computer teacher tell me that he will never pay for anti-virus again. He uses AVG Free. They are two different companies, and McAfee has a better user interface, while Norton's scans take too long, and don't tell you their percentage, and the update feature isn't the best. It is all up to you, but I use McAfee, and i have been told to not pay for anything, so the choice is yours. God Bless.

They are both about the same.

You should really go to cnet.com and download the AVG software

It is a really good program and is free with No adware.

You will save a lot of money and get excellent protection.

Both are horrible resource hogs, but most people agree Norton is the worse of the two. They are not compatible with one another, so you can only have one installed. I personally wouldn't use either one. If you want to go with a paid anti-virus program, I recommend Trend Micro. However there are three excellent free ones available and they do just about everything the paid ones do - except slow your computer to a crawl.
