Hi ! I have just purchased a desktop computer pre-loaded with windows vista OS and I thought of purchasing an older version of Microsoft office on ebay to install into my computer, as it is cheaper.
I heard of rumors that all Microsoft office older than Microsoft office XP couldn’t run on windows vista OS. Anybody have any idea which is the oldest version of Microsoft office (e.g Microsoft office 97, Microsoft office 2000, Microsoft office 2003, Microsoft office XP) that can run on windows vista OS ?
Thanks for all the help…

MS Office 3.0 was the first office suite released for Windows. Not sure if it would run on Vista. Probably not.
If you want a free office suite compatible with all MS Office formats, get Novell’s version of Open Office.

I don’t think you can use office older than XP in Vista. If you’d used Windows XP you could go backward up to Office 97.
But its great to use office 2007 along with vista. Vista and Office 2007 work great with each other.

I am running Office 2000 on Vista and it works just fine.
Of course, the commissioned salesperson at our local electronics store told me it wouldn’t. Also, I wasn’t able to find anything on Microsoft’s website telling me that it wouldn’t. I guess they aren’t too interested in people not buying upgrades either.
