i know that opinions vary but if you had to rely on only one which would it be??
spyware terminator free version ( my personal pick )
spyware doctor ( the free version, not the paid for one)
superantispyware
adaware (again, the free version)
spybot search and destroy
windows defender ( it has its strengths, but personally, i think it is crap)
i use spyware terminator as my main program and back it up with superantispyware which i run manually so no conflict with spy term.
ALSO, IS IT OK TO RUN MORE THAN ONE ANTI SPYWARE PROGRAM AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT RUN TOGETHER AND ONLY ONE WITH REAL TIME? I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS RECOMMENDED TO DO SO AS NO ONE PROGRAM IS GOOD AT GETTING ALL SPYWARE.
so, spyware terminator backed up by superantispyware, how does that sound???

I mostly use Ad-Aware 2007, but also I have SpyBot S&D which I use occasionally. It's a good idea to scan your system with more than one spyware scanner, as some scanners may miss things that others detect, esp. after a bad spyware infection.
To stop spyware getting onto your system in the 1st place, download SpywareBlaster and/or Spyware Guard, both are totally free and available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/downloads.html
Scan your system with one or more scanners before installing them. I've used them for about 3 years now and in that time I've rarely if ever had any spyware problems.

You did not mention which browser and edition you're using.
Spybot has been rated best for years and I've installed it on many machines. But use Firefox, much safer still.

I have had all of those on my computer at one time or another, but have none of them on now.
Spyware Terminator is to me the best of the bunch. Also provides HIPS protection, which is unusual for a free app.
AdAware has not really been maintained so it is not very good anymore.
I agree about Defender (whatever its called now).
SuperAntiSpyware will pick up and resolve some things that the others don't.
SpyBot is OK, but nothing special anymore.
Yes its OK to have more than one on, but you really should run only one (Terminator) in real time.
I don't use them anymore as I don't get any malware and the scans always found nothing so just a waste of space and CPU.

i know this isnt on the list, but i really like nod32 antivirus, with unlimited trial patch. so its free forever. really good too, dosent slow down computer at all.
