Which of these programs can I safely uninstall from my computer?

February 21st, 2009 · 13 Comments

I noticed, when going to uninstall things that I didn't need, that I had a bunch of the same stuff, just some were newer than the others, or had diff. numbers. So, which can I delete (if any)

computer background: I have an XP with Service Pack 3.
——–
Microsoft .net Framework 1.1
Mircosoft .net Framework 1.1 Hotfix
Microsoft .net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2
Microsoft .net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2
Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 SP1
———
Java 6 update 11
Jave 6 update 7
———
Adobe Acrobat 5.0
Adobe Reader 6.0.1
Adobe Acobat Reader 6.0.2 update
———-

Also, I have this program, that I had to manually unistall, because the Add/Remove programs had fatal errors whenever trying to remove it. But, the program doesn't remove itself from the list of programs installed. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks…. I know it's a lot of stuff to ask, but, I figure that someone here that knows computers, can help me.

Adobe Acrobat 5.0 is the only one you can delete

    • 3 degub0y // Feb 21, 2009

      only acrobat 5

the others are needed for various things to run properly, so dont touch them

You can remove them all, but there maybe some programs which require Microsoft .Net framework to run,

Java n all you don't need.

If you read Adobe PDF files then you need Acrobat reader, but you don't need both 5 and 6 you can remove 5. If you don't read PDF's at all you can remove Acrobat no problem

You can remove Adobe 5.0 if you would like bout you can remove Adobe 6.0.1 and 6.0.2

You cant remove Java 7 because Java 11 includes parts of Java 7, so the Java as a whole wouldn't work properly.

Never remove Microsoft .net programs you need all of them.

      Keel all .Net updates.

You can uninstall java 6 Update 7, becos you have update 11 installed differently

You can uninstall adobe acrobat 5.0,
dont uninstall 6.0.2 update as it may be only add on for 6.0.1.

Try Free uninstall utility like:- Easy uninstaller http://www.download.com/Easy-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10286873.html

It will not use your windows Add / Remove from control panel.

If you uninstall any of the Microsoft .net Framework programs, other applications that need them may no longer work properly. Honestly, all of the programs that you listed, except Adobe Acrobat 5.0, are not large compared to typical applications that you use on a more frequent basis. In other words, they don't take up a lot of space.

You may need Java to see and use certain web sites that incorporate Java. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to read any PDF file, which is a very common file type.

As for Adobe Acrobat 5.0, you need that if you wish to create and edit any PDF files. If you never create or edit PDF files, then you can remove this, but keep the Acrobat Reader 6.01 and 6.02 update.

you can uninstall java6 update 7

What pertains to Microsoft are updates to Windows and should no be touched. You can delete java and gain surfing speed on the internet, but lose some capabilities with games. You can delete Acrobat unless you are a user of Acrobat reader.
Programs that won't get removed from that panel have processes still running. That should be attended to by someone knowledgeable.

All the framework's work together, you cant remove these.

anything that says Update is an update of the original and cant be removed.

Acrobat 5.0 you can remove, because you have the 6.0.1

    • 11 Sni7ch // Feb 21, 2009

      ONLY Adobe Acrobat 5.0
Please don't delete the others. They will cause other programs and apps to malfunction and that could led to huge problems.

Adobe Acrobat 5.0 will allow you to make or edit PDF files, If you do not need to do that any longer that version can be removed.

Both the other Adobe Readers can also be removed - replace them with the latest Adobe Reader, from Adobe.com…. If you do not replace them, you will no longer be able to read PDF files.

The .net framework files can be important, depending on what applications you are using. before removing them, be sure you know where to get the current version so you will not be stuck w/o for too long.

Remove both Java 6 versions and then install the most current version. You can turn off the auto-update feature in the Java control panel.

The app that will not uninstall thru the control panel will need to be manually uninstalled. Check the support information on the web site of the company's website.
