If you’re not downloading a ton of data or installing and then uninstalling programs constantly, maintenance is very easy. Run your disk defragmentation program once every 1-2 months to keep data organized and easy for the software to access. You can find this program under System Tools on most Windows software.
As far as other programs, I prefer to use freeware if it is of good quality than pay for a program that doesn’t really offer much more. There are a couple of programs I would recommend. Glary Utilities has a registry cleaner, a shortcut fixer, temporary files cleaner (web browser) and a startup manager and it is a free program.

Assuming that you have programs to check for viruses, spam and malware, running the above program and defragging your PC every month or two should keep it running smoothly.
