I’m trying to install McAfee’s latest version of computer protection software, and I’ve done all the prerequisites required to do so: 1) make sure you’re connected to the internet, which I am, 2) Uninstall any other security product before installing the McAfee software, which I have, we had mcafee virus scan along with firewall, e.t.c, and mcafee spam killer; I uninstalled that. 3) If upgrading from previous version of McAfee, simply begin installation.
Now, steps 2 and 3 are the steps I’m having doubts about. When they say uninstall any other security product, does this mean uninstall my old McAfee protection?
And Is installing this new software considered an upgrade, because if so, I probably should’ve just began the installation of the new product without uninstalling the old one.
I really hope I didn’t make my problem sound TOO complicated, I just want to get this software on my computer quickly; I just got rid of RapidVirus (which is hell) and I don’t want anything else on my computer.
Help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Step 2 is asking you to simply uninstall any other security programs, so you should uninstall extra spyware removers or something.
Sorry I tried to help. good luck

To find out if what you purchased is an upgrade, it should say on the packaging ( upgrade or full product). If it is the full product, it won’t matter that you uninstalled the old one, as it will be reinstalled when you install the new software. However, if it is an upgrade, you will need to re-install the old mcafee software that you just removed, then use your new disc to upgrade it. If there is no way to re-install what you removes, when you put the new disc in your disc drive, the program should recognize this and give you a way (link or otherwise) to get the basic requirements to upgrade.
Hope this helps and isn’t too confusing.

1. Use Add/Remove from control panel. When removal complete reboot computer.
NOTE: this doesn’t remove all your Mcafee entries in the registry…you must continue.
2. Download the MCPR.exe from Mcafees website. This is the Mcafee Complete Program Removal tool
All instruction will be on this website.
3. After complete you can load your new version.
You need to use the MCPR.exe to completely remove Mcafee from your computer

I think Mcafee is killing my computer, I\’m not sure how, but it\’s the only explanation I can come up with. Just to be on the safe side I installed it this summer, and ever since then my computer has been acting very strangely. I get the Blue Screen of Death one out of two times and generally it has become very difficult to use. I have half a mind of just performing my last scan, and then uninstalling the damn thing. Someone has told me that your OS (God-damn Vista in my case) has to be updated so that new software is compatible with it. IF this is the case does anyone know which software updates I would need?
Thanks and good luck with your problem.
