Why are teh Symantec Virus defs growing by the day? only mid last year they were 20MB. Now = 40+MB?

The virus definitions are used to update symantec products and they(definitions) are growing astronomically… Does this mean that 2 Years from now, I will be downloading 100 MB files? just to udpate me antivirus? (…and do not intend on using that Fuugly "liveupdate")
