August 13th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Someone must have done something, it’s unmuted everywhere and just how it should be, I have a sound card but no matter what I do there’s no sound, I plugged out my speakers and plugged in some earphones they don’t work either, is there a silent mode or something, I’ve tried everything please help.
I can see on my volume pannel the sound waves goin up and down it's like there's just one little jam somewhere.

If you got windows vista then the best way is to restore system.
It is the best and safest way. Do not spoil your computer by doing what you are not aware of. Please use system restore to its previous setting when your pc was working fine.

Open the Sound control panel then click the Playback tab. Select Speakers and headphones. Click the Configure button. Click Test. You should hear three tones down and three tones up. If you don’t hear the tones, click Cancel and then click on the Speakers and headphones again and then click on Properties. In the General tab, make sure the Device is enabled. In the Custom tab, make sure the PC Spr mute isn’t selected. In the Levels tab, make sure the speakers and pc speakers levels are turned up. In the Enhancement tab, make sure nothing is selected and in the Advanced tab, make sure 16 bit 44100Hz CD quality is selected. Click Test to see if sound can be heard.

i have a dell notebook with vista and had the same problem for almost a month (no sound on youtube but i had sound with itunes). i googled this vista problem and found this website:

      http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/08/15/fix-windows-no-system-sound-and-audio-problem/

i followed the instructions but instead downloaded the latest full version of k-lite 4.1.0:

      http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

it was very helpful since it automatically detected and recommended to unistall any existing codecs that would interfere with the k-lite codec. during installation, any problems with the registry were also fixed. after installing i went to youtube and my sound was back.
