I was notified a little over a month ago about the Windows Live messenger Beta (9, I think it is). I downloaded and installed. I didn't want to try the other items they had checked on the install page so I unchecked those only installing the messenger portion of it. After several failed attempts, the program does not work properly. I have tried un-installing the program going through my ADD/Remove programs or I guess on Vista it's Install/Un-install. It will not uninstall. It wants me install everything I didn't install before. I don't want to install it and then try to un-install it if isn't going to let me. What do I need to do?
BTW, I have windows vista and when I go to my control panel I don't see a Add/Remove programs option.

OMG. I had the same problem. But I finally removed it.
Go to,
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
*look for Messenger Live Beta*
and then click 'Remove'
and then click Uninstall.
It would help if you had a screen snapshot of the uninstallation?
May be different for us both.

Go to your Control Panel, and open 'Programs and Features'.
Wait for the list to populate, then look for Messenger Live Beta (it might be Windows Live Messenger Beta or some other variation)
Click 'Remove' and follow the uninstall process.
If that fails to work, Microsoft recommends that you use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, available at this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
Install the program (it will say it is for Office but it works for all Windows Installers) and run it from the start menu. Scroll down to Windows Live Messenger Beta (it may be prefixed with (All Users) depending on your install settings) and click it. Then click remove and let the program work its magic!

Actually;
For mine I found it was rather difficult to locate since it wasn’t labelled under “Windows Live Messenger”
I eventually found it in the Add/Remove Program list under “Windows Live Essentials”
After clicking it, it gave you a list of items you’d like to remove, messenger included.

I’ve been having the same problem, but none of that has worked!
When I try to use the “Windows Installer CleanUp Utility” I keep getting a box that says “The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.”
I don’t know what to do with that! How do I know if it’s running in “safe mode”, and how I run it in… NON safe mode? GAAAAH!
I just want it OFF my computer now! It won’t let me sign in, and all the Help sites are useless. It won’t let me un-install it because “the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed” it says “This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode,” AGAIN WITH THIS “safe mode”! WHAA? “of if Windows is not properly installed” well… something’s OBVIOUSLY not PROPER! “Contact your support personnel for assistance.” AGAIN with this “personnel” I apparently have. THEN it says “Please try installing Windows Live programs again.” SO, I go to try and re-download it, but it won’t let me because I already have it. BUT, it won’t let me take it off.. I’m stuck with it, but I can’t use it!
I’m sorry, but this is just so unbelievably frustrating.
