I’m still have old definitions from 14 August. When I click “update now”, I get the message that it failed because it can’t connect with the update server.
OK, so I decide to manually download the update file from the website. I discovered it to be .bin files. What the hell am I suppose to do with these files? How do I use these downloaded files to update AVG?

I would uninstall and reinstall with a fresh copy. Sounds like a corrupt copy of AVG8.

I know, mine too. I cant update it when I update it just stays blank. Mine worked before but it suddenly stopped.
Try opening the .bin file with AVG.

I had the same problem so I got rid of it
try avast it’s free and the detection is just as good if not better then AVG

I know the feeling they want to sell you the pay for edition. Flush it and get Avira Antivirus free from CNet download.com

avg antivirus sucks as hell(only give thumb down if u have used other antivirus products den a avg)
try nod32 its best

Open the AVG program by double clicking the icon on your task bar.
Click on tools, then click on update from directory. Browse to the directory where you downloaded the bin file.AVG will then install the bin file and update. Did this just minutes ago myself and everything is fine

I had problems too with AVG when it first switched over to 8, and posted on here. Someone suggested avast!, and I like it much better - and no problems with it either. Here’s the link to the free version.

Im having the same problem and i dont know witch antivirus to get.. one thing do not use nod32. beleive it or not nod32 is not windows compatible and it gets corrupted and damage your windows system badly. It happened to me a while ago, thats why i got AVG.
