Why does “End Task” in Vista not “End task”?

October 25th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Ok, I have a new and powerful computer, but often MSN and YIM crash for whatever reason. Fair enough I can live with that. But what I am having difficulty in figuring out, is why when I try and end task, it doesn’t end it. When I give up trying to end task, I restart the computer, and then it freezes with hard drive going crazy. I have too physically hard turn off the computer which in long term may damage my computer. Sometimes when Internet Explorer crashes, I am not even able to run task manager due to “unknown Error” (very rare), and same happens when I try to shut down. So what I am asking is why when my PC is incredibly powerful, has no viruses or malware or spy files, with all the up to date versions of both IE7 MSN and YIM, can Vista somehow not be good enough to end task? Many Thanks

Vista just sucks, I have it too and for no apparent reason it doesn’t work with me. I liked XP better.. but I’m stuck with this

I cannot explain to you why this is happening, but I can suggest something else. I for one gave up on taskman. I found something that will kill your processes and its worth a look. You can see a lot more about your computer, what it is doing, and maybe figure out whats going on with this program.

First from what you say it sounds like your pc is acting like this because, your computer might not be good and some one scamed you
(wich is unlikley) or you installed somthing not compatible with vista, and also one of those updates might have been spy wear, if so your screwed cause they are melicius when you get them from updates, trust me, i know.
You could try defragging it or restoring it!

In worst case scenario and you get a blue screen you should reinstall vista.

A user’s last resort for ending a program is usually Ctrl-Alt-Delete. This opens task manager. Then you can close the program. In task manager most people just close the program under the Applications Tab. What most people don’t know is that in task manager you can close a program in the processes area also.

The processes of YIM, MSN, and Internet Explorer are as follow:
      MSN - msnmsgr.exe
      Yahoo - Ymsgr.exe
      Internet Explorer - iexplore.exe

If neither of these solutions work you should try to restart your computer by going to the start menu and shutting down. If the computer won’t shut down you must do a hard shut down. This is done by holding the Power On button until the computer turns off.

If you continue to have problems with these instructions then you should try reinstalling the software that crashes. If your problems occur more you should reinstall Windows Vista. You can find out how to do that on Yahoo Search.
