why does firefox not block pop-ups ?

i have the latest firefox version and i have the pop-up blocker enabled, however every few seconds [not exagerating] random pop-up adverts open in a new window, am i to get rid of my fav browser :( ?

      u might have a adware infection , and firefox's antipop isnt the best available

      Don't get rid of the browser, just the operating system. :)
      Or install the NoScript add-on.

      Then it's not a problem with Firefox, it's a problem with either windows messenger, and I do NOT mean Windows Live Messenger, or another program.
