Hi. I have had my computer for over a year now. When ever i start up my computer it is really slow. I always do regular checks with many virus checkers and cleaners such as AVG8, AVAST, ZONEALARM, REGISTRY FIX AND CCLEANER. According to all these my computer is fine. I have been on run-msconfig and everything is ok. But it is still is slow. It usually take about 5 mins to properly startup. Here some details….
* AMD Athlon ™ XP 2600+
* Running Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service pack 2
* 2.13 GHZ and 480MB of Ram
* CDrive Free Space-> 20.8Gb / 55.8Gb
* I only have 9 icons on desktop
* Also ONLY 6 icons come on the tasbar at startup (which is fine) but i have to wait for them to pop up and then wait for about 5-10 mins. Please help me fix my computer. Any sources will do. Thanks!

Well first off, having multiple anti virus, anti spyware, etc. causes a lot of issues including slow start up mainly because they constantly conflict with each other. If you look next to the clock and see a bunch of icons, then you have a lot of programs either starting with windows or constantly running with Windows (like messenger programs). Most programs will have an option to not start with Windows. Cleaning up those programs and preventing some (not all such as 1 antivirus/antispyware program) to not start with windows can speed up your startup time.

Trry defragmenting your hardrives.
Go to Windows livecare - security - all system scan…
Just go here and do the full service scan:
It'll take a long time but it is good.
Just do everything it tells you to do.
It might take a few times to work though.
it will work eventually.
It did for me!

i would reboot my computer that should help but this does erase everything on your computer such as picture,music,documents.
1. Start
2. Restart Computer
3. While Restarting Keep Tapping F10

Of course it will start slow on startup because you’ve got so many softwares that runs on startup. Uninstall some of them, and install one firewall software (I reccommend Windows Defender) and one AV Software. In addition, you must defragment your hard drive once a year or once every three months. Uninstall some unused softwares, delete files, clear temporary files and caches. Also, perform a quick scan your computer with your AV software everyday, and a full system scan when the computer is not in use.

disable unwanted windows services like error reporting services, help and support etc. that will increase start up speed to some extent……..
If possible just repair your windows Xp ………..
Reduce the no of start up items. you seem to be having 6 startup programs……
