My clients are getting hit like crazy with these phony antivirus programs that try to scare and extort money out of them.
Why are these programs not being intercepted or removed by Norton and McAfee?

fake antivirus programs are classed as malware not viruses that’s why Norton and McAfee cannot remove them, a lot of fake antivirus programs are now coming with a rootkit.
It begs the question does rootkit protection work ?
Tell your clients to use:
AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42

(If using Vista turn off UAC first)
Free Malwarebytes:

Because Norton and McAfee are total crap and bloatware, here are the three that will catch them though i’ve used them on my customers computers, superantispyware the free or paid for edition., malwarebytes the paid for or free edition., and spybot Search and Destroy, Avira AntiVir free edition is also very good.

Because their both high priced turds that are useless and unreliable! (Avg is another turd!)
Top free security systems
1. (Malwarebytes,Superantispyware,Avira).
Malwarebytes and Superantispyware are both on demand scanners and Avira is a scanner/firewall combo,They work well with each other and are lite and effective, although Avira is prown to giving false positives from time to time?
Watch this video on using these programs to kill malware for free.

2. (Pctools Antivirus,Threatfire and Firewall plus).
PcTools Antivirus is the same as SpyDoc with antivirus only lighter and it has real time protection,Threatfire has real time threat analysis and Firewall plus is a nice user friendly firewall,They work well with each other and are lite and effective.

3.(DriveSentry) is a all in one system that is lite and (very effective) and it’s also easy to use (After allowing all your programs to run once you don,t even notice it,just set and forget)This is great for laptops.

"Shadow Defender" is the best and easiest security program that Ive ever used!
(It’s not free but it’s so good I had to mention it!) Shadow Defender is a PC/laptop security and privacy protection tool for Windows operating systems. It provides an unique way to prevent unwanted or malicious changes from being made to your PC/laptop. With Shadow Defender you can run system in a virtual environment, called Shadow Mode. And all the attacks will happen in the virtual environment, not in the real environment. If attacks happened, all you need to do is to reboot your system. After reboot, your system will be restored to the original state, as if nothing happened. And meanwhile you can save any selected files and folders to the real environment. (Note) This is a "Good program" not a "Rogue" as some uninformed people think? I wouldn’t steer people to bogus crap unlike other pinheads on answers! (It’s well worth the 35 bucks!)
(Shareware) try it for free for 30 days?

Because the advertisement isn’t a virus. You have to click on the file and download it to get the virus.
Your clients are button pushers and probably have clicked and got their address on the ‘ King of Spammers List ‘
Tell them that clicking on the X to close a popup is the same as clicking to execute a file. Instead, look at the task bar and right click and close the offending pop-up. If a popup won’t close like that, click CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and close the browser and try again.

The more popular a program, the more hackers want to infiltrate it.
Considering Norton and Mcafee already have a name for a long time and usually pre-installed when we buy a new pc, many viruses are created for these antiviruses. That’s why there are many viruses that escape their detection, regardless the efforts they have made to improve the program.
Take for example Internet Explorer. The most popular, but also the most vulnerable browser.
