Why has my computer become sooo slow ???????

June 3rd, 2008 · 4 Comments

This happened suddenly a few days ago , it takes forever to start and the xp loading screen goes on and on for atleast 2 mins.
After it start's all programs run slowly and often there is a crackling sound from the speakers.
I've run anti virus checks , pc optimizer and many spy and adware test and removed all the problems. But its still slow as ever.
I've defragmented my hd and used all the system tools.
What should i do ???????????

ps : i've been downloading alot of torrents recently and deleting them soon after so does that have anything to do with this ?

Probably all the porn. Try reformatting the HDD and starting new.

      1) Scan virus, Spyware and Adware in Safemode. Softwares recommended: Norton anti-virus, Zone Alarm or Free AGV, Spyware doctor and Registry Mechanic (fix ur registry keys).
      2) If your comp is still slow, back up your data and format ur hard drive.

Yes, it's the torrents. You've probably gotten at least a dozen bits of spyware, malware, and/or viruses. Get AdAware and/or Spybot Search and Destroy and pray. Next time, don't run any software you don't 100% trust.

Hi, I have just been through all of this cobblers with my PC. Usually I give up, back up all important files to a sep harddrive…and then wipe the sytem drive by re-installing windows. and of course the progs that you "really do" use, and leave off the ones you don't. Its a pain I know…but it really does restore the pc to its original new status and speed…..unless you have an actual hardware prob of course!

However, to avoid the pain of doing all of this, I purchased System Mechanic Pro and installed it. It found 3 spyware and 2 virus issues that AVG 8.0 and Noadaware has missed!!

Instant improvement all round but still not perfect. This morning I went through all the progs that are installed….and found loads I have not used for up to 2 years. Rid the lot!!! I also got rid of these horrible software extras that come with stuff like Webcams, scanner and printers and the like….I got rid of those extras too!!

Finally I removed the toolbar extras like Google bar and yahoo toolbars etc etc. I rebooted….its like new again! The whole PC boots as it should do and runs much much better. System Mechanic has a much better anivirus and overall protection tools…so I shall leave that on for the time being, its clearly running well in the background.
      So…my advice is:
      1) Get rid of all the crap that you don't use….everything!
2)Go into Run/msconfig and select any services that you are CERTAIN you do not need and uncheck them
      3) go into startup and make sure you have nothing extra running there that you do not need.

WARNING: Do make sure you are not stopping any vital Microsoft services and make sure you do a proper back up of the important folders and docs first!

      Good Luck!
