when navigating the internet it is very slow, even checking email. My highspeed internet used to just take a split second to navigate web pages and now it takes 5+ seconds for each page. I checked my internet speed and it is good at 1.5Mb/s. I then noticed windows explorer is just as slow, so it doesn’t appear to be a internet problem. My computer is “protected” by using “AVG free edition” and also “spybot”. I have deleted cookies, recycle bin and defragged. My hard drive is 80GB with 45GB of free space. How can I speed up my PC?

Open up task manager and check your Performance graphs. Is your CPU usage almost maxed out? Chances are you have horrible spyware processes running in the background and your computer is completely hijacked.
Running Spybot alone isn’t enough, you need to run several things in combination. Try the free version of Lavasoft AdAware…also try SuperAntiSpyware.
Uninstall stuff you don’t need that might run at startup and sap away your CPU time.

See http://www.debog.com for things you can do to speed-up your computer. Be sure to back up regularly, if you store important data.
