i have dsl, and a fairly new computer. it has never been reformatted, maybe that is why? it is a little over two years old. i have the highest speed of dsl available in my area, and my dsl is slower than people around me. it MUST be the computer right? my XBOX Live is fast.
how can i fix the computer to play movies and such faster? like on youtube, it still takes the videos forever to play. of course its faster than dial up and such, but its nowhere near it should be. please help.
okay i dont know anything about all this that you are all saying, so should i hire someone to come look at the computer? if i tried all this i would just end up messing it up worse lol. who could i hire to come do it? any companies come to mind?

maybe because of your x box. try to scan your computer with yahoo anto spy or scan your computers registry.

The internet is fast enough. It may be your processor or RAM. Check and see, you want your processor to be around 2.0ghz (and thats fast enough) and 1, maybe 2, GB of RAM

It depends on how much stuff is installed on the computer and whether or not you run virus/spyware/adware scans regularly. The computer could just be bogged down running things in the background that you don’t actually see running. A computer is generally doing much more than the XBOX does when it runs, but if you haven’t run scans on the computer I would try that first and see if it improves the speed.

lawl @ Geek Squad. bah don't ever take anything thing to them they will only reformat it and that's all. Call your computers manufacturer and ask them if they have any recommendations of computer techs in your area, they will give you a list. call one of them. Good luck

Most computer slowdowns can be attributed to one or both of these reasons: 1) spyware/malware ; 2) registry problems. Also, if you have System Restore turned on, you can be assured that your hard drive needs to be defragemented.
A free program that will clean your hard drive of unnecessary files and has a registry fixer to boot is CCleaner. Download at;
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
For spyware removal: Spybot Search and Destroy;

If these programs do not solve your problem - then yes, a reformat might be the answer.
