I don’t get it. This computer was slow like 3 days ago, so then deleted a ton of programs , ran a whole computer Virus Scan, then ran disk defragment, THEN ran disk Cleanup, then scanned for registry stuff with CCleaner, rootkiller, AND hijack this , and fixed all that, and I saw a huge improvment on my computer, On everything, everything was just faster. But all of sudden today, my computer is just slooooooooow. i dont get it, I got one thing running, AVG 8.0, yet everything i click takes like 5 minutes to load. Start menu- freezez up, my documents, my computer, slow and slow. Internet AND firefox both crashed on my like twice. My CPU usage in Task Manager is only 25%. WHAT THE F%$# is wrong!?!??!

As you know computer can have more things hidden on them that can drag their speed down than a person can possible sift through. One day we can think we have out computer running a top notch and then the next you want to throw it out the window. That’s why I’ve adopted the following policy that might be of use to you.
I externally backup everything I need to keep. So basically I only keep very basic programs and the OS on my system at all times and the rest is stored on my external drive. I’ve stored all the reinstallation CD’s and such in a place where I won’t lose them and about every 6 months I completely format my computer (depending on if it needs it).
You can keep your computer perfectly organized, but unfortunately overtime they only get slower.

uninstall AVG and install AVAST it is also free. And AVAST does a startup scan so that it don’t miss ANYTHING and once you do that it will be practically like new

CPU usage is low - so there’s really only two other possibilities. Network usage and memory usage. Actually, is “Show processes from all users” selected to see if any process in the system (not just yours) are taking CPU time? I’ve been amazed before, some system process taking up all the CPU.

Okay, you could try using msconfig to stop certain unwanted programs from executing on startup.
> To do this you need to go to Start, then Run. Type in ‘Msconfig’ without the quotes, and the utility will open shortly after. When your in the utility, click on the tab ‘Startup’ and from there you can uncheck certain programs that you know you do not want/need executing on startup. Don’t overdo it though, make sure you know what your stopping from starting up.
> You could try deleting your Temporary files. To do this go to My computer > Your Local Hard Disk > Windows. In the Windows directory you’ll find a folder called ‘Temp’. You can delete everything inside this folder as they are Temporary not needed files placed on your computer, some may not delete though.
> And the easiest most effective solution: Format your Hard Disk.
Just back up all the things you need and Format it!
If slow performing carries on from there, what about upgrading your computers hardware? i.e an extra 1 - 2gb of ram won’t hurt.
Hope this helps.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.
First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:
1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click “Control Panel”, and then double-click “Internet Options”.
3. On the General tab, click “Delete Files” under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the “Delete all offline content” check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.
3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type “msconfig.exe”
4. In the “system configuration utility”,click either “service” or “startup” tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click “OK”
